What's happening at Uttoxeter

Wed, Sep 14, 2011

Uttoxeter Racecourse will hold its last Family Fun Day of 2011 on Sunday [18 September], with plenty of activities for all the family to enjoy a great day out.

There won't be a horse in sight for the first race of the day, as the racecourse holds its annual mascot race. Mascots from XXXXXXXXXX will be taking part and there will be plenty of opportunities for people to have their pictures taken with them as they wander around the course.

In the Centre Course entertainment will include a funfair, giant inflatables and The Owl Experience, where children will have the chance to see, touch and even hold the beautiful birds, as well as finding out about what they eat and how they develop.

Fox's Biscuits will also be helping to make sure the day is a 'sweet' experience, giving away 8,000 free samples of their new Ambers biscuits.

The afternoon will, of course, also be packed with competitive racing, sponsored by A&S Enterprises. People young and old can enjoy the thrill of the sport, see the horses up close in the parade ring, spot some of the country's top jockeys walking through the crowd and try to pick a winner.

David MacDonald, Executive Director at Uttoxeter Racecourse said: "Our Family Fun Days have been really popular throughout the year and so we're hoping to attract a good crowd on Sunday. The Owl Experience will add a great new attraction and there's plenty of space for families to spread out and enjoy a picnic in the Centre Course.

"Of course everybody is welcome, not just families. There's always a buzzing atmosphere in our Grandstand & Paddock enclosures and watching the racing really gets the adrenalin pumping."

Gates open at 12.15pm with the first horse race ready for the off at 2.20pm and the last at 5.20pm.

Tickets are priced from £9 in advance. Admission is free for children under 16 when accompanied by an adult.
