What's happening at Uttoxeter

Tue, Dec 13, 2011

Christmas has come early for the team at Uttoxeter Racecourse, as it celebrates being named the Best Small Racecourse in the North Midlands.

The home of the Midlands Grand National was given the accolade by The Racegoers Club, whose 5,000-strong membership is widely recognised as being the heart of British race-going.

The win represents a double celebration for Uttoxeter, as the racecourse has regained the title having last won in 2008.

David MacDonald, Executive Director of Uttoxeter Racecourse said: "I'm thrilled that we have regained this award and I'm particularly pleased for the team here who work so hard all-year-round. While many people are winding down for Christmas it's a different story at the racecourse, as we are racing on New Year's Eve and so we will all be working over the Christmas break to put on a great day. We strive to give our customers the best possible experience on racedays and for racing fans themselves to recognise that makes it all worthwhile.

"We're busy planning for 2012 now that fixtures have been announced by the sport's governing body the BHA and I'm delighted to say that we have increased from 22 to 25 racedays, against a decrease in the total number being staged nationally. I hope that racing fans will continue to enjoy visiting Uttoxeter and that we will continue to attract new visitors trying racing for the first time."

The next race meeting at Uttoxeter is on Saturday 31st December. Gates open at 10.15am with the first of seven races ready for the off at 12.10pm. Tickets are priced from £9.00 in advance.
