PUNTERS HOPING TO HAVE LUCK OF THE IRISH ON ST PATRICK'S DAY AT UTTOXETER
Mon, Jan 30, 2012
The biggest horseracing event in the Midlands is fast approaching, as Uttoxeter Racecourse prepares to host the Betfred Midlands Grand National.
Punters will be hoping that they have the luck of the Irish at the 41st running of the race on Saturday 17th March, which is also St Patrick's Day and so the day is sure to have a real party atmosphere.
The feature day in Uttoxeter's calendar comes at the end of Cheltenham Festival week, a time when horseracing is at the top of the sports news agenda and captures the imagination of the whole country.
David MacDonald, Executive Director at Uttoxeter Racecourse said: "The Midlands Grand National is the biggest day of the year at Uttoxeter. We are hoping for over 14,000 visitors and if the weather is kind to us it will be a great day for the whole town. Last year's race was very exciting, with 25-1 outsider Minella Four Star claiming a thrilling victory and making some very happy punters.
"The fact that this year's event is taking place on St Patrick's Day will no doubt add to the party atmosphere and offers people the perfect way to celebrate."
Tickets for the Betfred Midlands Grand National are on sale now priced from £14 in the Centre Course and a £3 discount available for booking Grandstand & Paddock and Premier Enclosure tickets in advance. Gates open at 11.00am and there will be seven races on the day.
