THE Irish are famous for their raiding parties to Uttoxeter Racecourse. But they've yet to succeed in taking home the £60,000 Britannia Building Society English Summer National, Britain's top summer jumps race. The Emerald Isle, though, is set to launch a strong challenge in the three-and-a-half mile race on Sunday (28 JUNE). Kerryhead Windfarm is the highest rated horse in the event, and comes with bags of experience. Bother Na is the fourth rated horse, and has run in Grand National at Aintree before. Britain's leading contender is Boychuk, while the veteran Take The Stand, which won the race in 2004, is back for more this year. And if Black Beauty runs, he'll be a popular betting choice with many of the first time or occasional visitors to the racecourse. Plenty of them will be in the Centre Course where the Britannia Building Society entertain their staff and members. The weather is set fair for the weekend in Staffordshire, so a big crowd is expected at the racecourse. David MacDonald, General Manager of Uttoxeter Racecourse, said: "Britannia Building Society English Summer National day is one of the great occasions of the year at the racecourse. We always welcome an enormous crowd, packed with families coming for a superb afternoon out at the races." Clerk of the Course Keith Ottesen assesses the going currently as "good to firm". Admission and contact details for Sunday 28 June The first race is due off at 2.15pm. The last is at 5.35pm. Premier Enclosure £20; Grandstand Enclosure £16; Centre Course Family Enclosure £8. Accompanied children under 16 always admitted free. Car parking is free.
