Ahead of the Jump Championship Opener race meeting taking place on Saturday 5 May, Uttoxeter Racecourse and Moorland Pottery have unveiled the brand new Staffordshire Plate created as a trophy for the winners of the day’s feature race.

Taking place during Staffordshire Week, the weeklong celebration of all-things-Staffordshire,  the bet365 Staffordshire Plate is a highly-renowned £35,000 handicap steeple chase run over three miles. Such a high profile race deserves only the finest of awards and Uttoxeter Racecourse agreed that Moorland Pottery were the ideal brand to design the specially commissioned piece.

Hayley Plimley, Head of Sales & Marketing at Uttoxeter Racecourse, said: “The designs of Moorland Pottery convey all that is great about Staffordshire. Their ‘Stokie Ware’ range felt like the perfect fit.

“Moorland Pottery director Jon Plant and I sat down and discussed the many things that make our county great, such as its industry, creativity and countryside. The resultant design is fantastic and we cannot wait to present this unique piece of Staffordshire pottery to the winner of our big race this Bank Holiday weekend.”

Jon Plant said: “I’ve absolutely loved working on this project. Not only have I learnt lots about Uttoxeter Racecourse during the process, I have learnt a lot about Staffordshire. Before developing the design I researched the county’s history. There are so many iconic images to celebrate, it made my job pretty easy.”

“I feel very proud and honoured to have been asked to work on this wonderful project. The presentation of the plate will be one of the highlights of my career and the history of Moorland Pottery.”

After a week-long break from professional jump racing, the Jockey and Trainer Championships for 2018/19 gets underway, with seven races at Uttoxeter in which the first points will be earned and a new battle begun to see who will be crowned Champion Jockey.

There will also be a presentation of the Uttoxeter Leading Trainer and Jockey Awards for the previous season where trainer Dan Skelton and Jockey Aidan Coleman will be handed their awards.

The day will be jam-packed with family entertainment including inflatables, games arena, fun-fair and the LoveClay Creation Zone, plus live music from The Daisy Chains.
