A typical race day at the races begins with the gates opening around two hours before the first race, allowing racegoers to settle in and explore the venue. The racecourse was forced to close during the first and second world wars, but when it reopened in 1952 it saw a staggering 12,000 people turn up for the first meeting.
Uttoxeter has seen some big names on its grounds including Lord Gyllene (owned by former racecourse chairman, Sir Stanley Clarke) who finished second in the Midlands Grand National in 1997 but went on to win at the Grand National at Aintree just a few weeks later.
